Film-Am ace comedian Jo Koy is happy to carry the Philippine flag around the world through the Hollywood film 'Easter Sunday.'
In his interview with Nelson Canlas of 24 Oras during the premiere night of his movie, he stated that this is a really big opportunity at a time when movies are facing a lot of headwinds.
“I love it! I mean not too many people get to go international with their movies. I mean, not too many people put their movies in theaters right now. Everyone goes straight to streaming, I'm getting a double bonus right now.”
The talented comedian also recalled the moment he had his first TV guesting on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.
“My mom was in the green room, while I'm talking with Jay Leno, and then she was sewing the Filipino flag on my chest, 'cause I want to represent. I was going to be on national TV and this was my opportunity to like show my mom [Josie Harrison] her flag on TV.
“On the biggest stage in Hollywood, which was the Tonight Show, especially during that time, it was massive. Manny Pacquiao was fighting for the championship, the day after my taping. So, it was a big weekend for Filipinos,” the actor said.
Adding another feather to his cap is the fact that this movie is a collaboration with Hollywood icon Steven Spielberg.
Jo Koy shared, “He approached me, after my specials when I came out with Comin' in Hot. I got a call from Amblin [Entertainment], which is his company. And they brought me in, he basically asked me to pitch a movie idea. And I pitched Easter Sunday. Literally, bought it in the room and I mean in eight months we were already shooting in Vancouver.”
